The matte Wayfarer
The angled upper line, small metal front accents and substantial temples define the familiar Wayfarer silhouette. A matte black finish changes the way that shape catches light, giving the broad surfaces a softer appearance than a polished frame. Green replacement lenses keep the colour restrained. The recorded L2009 XWAS code provides a more useful identification point than a general comparison with later Wayfarer reissues.
Collector’s note
Later green sun lenses complement the matte surface. The replacement lenses are distinguished from the vintage frame.
In cultural history
Ray-Ban’s brand history associates the Wayfarer with Bob Dylan and records its prominence in The Blues Brothers (1980) and Risky Business (1983). Those connections concern the Wayfarer model’s cultural history. The matte finish and L2009 XWAS marking distinguish this particular offering; it is not presented as an exact film-worn configuration.
Condition & presentation
The matte black surface and metal rivet accents remain distinct. Later green sun lenses are fitted. Please refer to the photographs for surface detail; additional close-ups are available. No case is included.
