Our standard

“Every assertion should be proportionate to the evidence that supports it.”

Field Notes are educational and reflect close study of maker history, construction, materials, and surviving examples. They are not a substitute for hands-on examination of a specific object.

Restoration is carried out with intention by third-party specialists on an as-needed basis, preserving original features and markings as fully as possible. Individual condition notes describe the visible state and any specifically recorded changes.
