American Optical Smoky-Gray Sculpted Frame

Size 54–24

Vintage · production decade not established

An American Optical frame in smoky translucent gray, with a boldly modelled brow, keyhole bridge and generous lens openings. The material reveals the contour of the thick rims while keeping the front visually lighter than an opaque black frame.

Sculptural acetate

The upper rim is strongly modelled, with generous outer corners and a pronounced central keyhole bridge. Smoke-gray translucency reveals changes in thickness across the front. The large lens openings and broad temples give the frame its presence even without a factory model name. The gallery records the frame with blue-gray lenses installed, but the offering is for the frame alone; those pictured lenses are excluded.

Collector’s note

Offered without lenses. The photographs show the frame with blue-gray lenses fitted; those pictured lenses are not included.

Condition & presentation

Frame only; the lenses visible in the photographs are excluded. The smoky material and moulded contours are visible in the gallery. An optician should assess the frame before fitting lenses. No case is included.

Restoration is carried out with intention by third-party specialists on an as-needed basis, preserving original features and markings as fully as possible. Individual condition notes describe the visible state and any specifically recorded changes.
